As many of you have heard, this Saturday at 6pm there will be a Rally to
counter the protest against DePauw's production of The Laramie Project.
United DePauw would like to extend an invitation to any interested student
organizations to set up a table in the Julian Auditorium during the Rally
(corner of E Hanna St and S College Ave, Greencastle, Indiana).
Just before 7:30 those attending the Rally will walk together in a Silent
March from Julian to the GCPA. This march will be in honor of Matthew
Shepard, the victim of the heinous act of violence about which the Laramie
Project is based. In taking part in this silent march the campus will show
the people of the Westboro Baptist Church that they, and the hate that they
represent, is neither welcome on DePauw's campus, nor will it be dignified
with the kind of angry response that they desire. The Hartman House has
generously offered to set up Luminaries to guide our march between the
buildings.
United DePauw and the countless organizers of this event wish to thank you
in advance for your support and want to remind you of the potential risks
involved in engaging these picketers. While Public Safety will be on hand to
protect students it is really our responsibility to keep a level head when
faced with this kind of provocation. We look forward to seeing you at the
Rally!
