Screening of "Ordinary Couples/Extraordinary Lives" (Indy)Submitted by John Clower on October 30, 2008 - 2:31pm.
11/16/2008 - 4:00pm Etc/GMT-5 "Ordinary Couples / Extraordinary Lives," a documentary on same sex couples from the Indianapolis area who have been together for 10 years or more, is having it's World Premiere at this year's LGBT Film Festival held at the IUPUI Campus Center November 14th thru the 16th. Created by local photographer Mark A. Lee, "Ordinary Couples" takes a look at 10 couples (5 male and 5 female) who have been together anywhere from 10 to 55 years, in a fun and entertaining way. "The film started out as a mentoring project for gay and lesbian youth," says Lee, "and so I went around to various gay/straight alliances in an attempt to find out how we could make this into something they would actually be interested in." As a result of those talks, the bulk of the filming was done in front of a live studio audience at the University of Indianapolis on July 28th, 2007. The evening began with a couple renditions of the "Gaylywed Game", hosted by comedienne Dana Black, and ended with a question and answer period hosted by clinical psychologist Michele O'Mara, and photographer Mark A. Lee. The entire evening, including interviews conducted the week before, was filmed by kids from Indiana Youth Group (IYG) and Pike HS. In keeping with the local flavor of the show, back ground music throughout the film is performed by musicians John Cannaday, Deb Mullens, Christopher "C-Ray" Ray, and the Ensemble Voltaire, among others. "Ordinary Couples / ExtraOrdinary Lives!" is one of 58 films being presented at this year's film festival. For more information on the festival itself, or to find out ticket and show time information, visit www.indylgbtfilmfest.com. "Ordinary Couples" is making it's debut at 4PM on Sunday November 16th on the 4th Floor of the Campus Center, and a meet and greet with some of the cast members will follow in the Starbucks on the first floor immediately following the show.
