Dust off your bowling bag or consider taking up a new activity --
it's time for a new season of Sparks Bowling!

Organizational Night Sunday October 12th at 6pm!

The Sunday night women's bowling league is for Bloomington-area lesbians, their friends and co-workers, and its cool-weather schedule is designed to work around softball season and other spring/summer/fall activities.

Organizational night will be Sunday, Oct. 12, with league play starting the next Sunday, on Oct. 19. Start time will be 6 p.m. The fall session will run through Dec. 7 or 14 (bowlers to decide), break for the holidays and regroup Jan. 4 for a winter session running through early March. Then we'll take the summer off. You can take part in one or both "semesters" of the league. We bowl at Classic Bowling Lanes, just off West 17th Street. In the past we have had 4-9 organized teams of four women each. We also need a roster of available substitutes.

Details are pretty much the same as last year -- for league bowlers, the cost will be $6.65 a week for three games, which we will round up to $7, with the extra going into the party fund. League bowlers are committed to paying the weekly fee, whether they bowl or not, and to calling the sub list to fill any session when they can't bowl.

Subs will pay a party fee, $5, and will need to have shoes or rent them for $2 a night, but don't pay for the bowling. That makes substituting occasionally a great option for people with irregular schedules, physical concerns or tight budgets.

On organizational night, Oct. 12, we will have open bowling, just for fun and to get the kinks out, at a special rate of $1.95 per game, with free shoe rental on this night only. You can bowl three games, or just one or two. Anyone interested in becoming a regular league bowler or a substitute is welcome to join in. This night will be a good time to meet folks, see how the league works, and find a slot on a team if you want one. Talent is not required -- this is a social league!

Drop me an e-mail if you are interested at janicerickert@comcast.net , or call Janice at 339-4283 after 10 a.m.

You are also welcome to just show up at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, at Classic Lanes.
