IE Launches Civil Rights Petition DriveSubmitted by John Clower on September 3, 2008 - 10:38am.
Indiana Equality has embarked on a multi-year campaign to persuade Indiana's legislators to enact basic civil rights protections for Hoosier citizens, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It is still legal in Indiana today to fire someone from a job, to deny someone a raise or job promotion, to kick someone out of an apartment, to refuse to sell someone a house, to deny someone credit, and to bar someone from public accommodations--simply because that person is PERCEIVED to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender! IE wants you to join other concerned Hoosiers in petitioning our legislature and governor to ensure that basic civil rights for LGBT people become a part of state law. To sign the petition, go to: http://eqfed.org/campaign/civilrightspetition For more about Indiana Equality and its sister organization--Indiana Equality Education Fund--go to: www.indianaequality.org and www.ieeducationfund.org |
