Cleveland photographer Herbert Ascherman Jr. has created a body of personal work that includes nudes, fetish images, erotic scenes, and portraits of couples. Selected from nearly 500 original prints in the Kinsey Institute’s collection, the photographs in this exhibition represent Ascherman’s four decades of exploring human sexuality in all its fascinating variety.

The curator of this exhibition is Claude Cookman, a historian of photography and professor in the School of Journalism at Indiana University. He says of Ascherman's work: “Based on the evidence in these photographs, people feel absolutely comfortable engaging in sexual play in front of Ascherman’s camera…. The result is a refreshing naturalism, shared not just with the photographer but all who feast on these images.”

The Kinsey Institute Gallery will host a reception on Friday, September 12, 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be provided. Immediately following the reception, Herbert Ascherman will give a talk about his work and career in photography, in Morrison 007 (ground floor), 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Kinsey Institute Gallery is open 2:00 to 4:00 pm weekdays. Admission is free. Visitors should be 18 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
