05/22/2008 - 7:00pm Etc/GMT-5 INDIANAPOLIS – The Pride of Indy Band has been invited to perform in two concerts as part of the 2008 Garfield Park Summer Concert Series. The first will showcase our Jazz Band and the second will highlight our Concert ensemble. The Pride of Indy Jazz Band, under the direction of John Joanette, was founded in 2006, and is Indiana’s only LGBT jazz ensemble. The group and its “parent organization”, the Pride of Indy, boasts a yearly performance calendar filled with over 12 concerts and special appearances at ommunity events. The Pride of Indy Jazz Band welcomes you to “bring some color into your summer” with them as they open the Garfield Park’s Summer Series on Thursday, May 22nd,at 7:00 pm. Admission into the concert is free. The Jazz Band will perform your favorite big band hits and standards and will feature vocalist, Laura Maune. “This is a great opportunity and an honor for our Jazz Band to open the Summer Series,” states Natasha Dowell, Vice President of the Board. The Pride of Indy Band and Color Guard serves as a musical and educational resource to the Central Indiana community and is comprised of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and LGBT friendly musicians. Activities are conducted in a supportive, accepting and affirming atmosphere. The Pride of Indy Band and Color Guard is an educational and artistic division of Indy Pride, Inc.
