IE Field Organizer Applications Due Soon

As announced several weeks ago, Indiana Equality (IE) has been
chosen as a recipient of a challenge grant from Tides
Foundation's State Equality Fund, a philanthropic partnership
that includes the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, the Gill
Foundation, and anonymous donors.

The grant monies along with monies raised will be used to hire a
field organizer to travel every part of the state to reach out
and educate Hoosiers and their elected officials; it will also,
lay the groundwork for needed protections for LGBT people in

Lawmakers eye gay-wed amendment

Opponents of same-sex marriage said today that they would try again to amend Indiana’s constitution to prohibit gay unions, this time with a re-worded amendment they hope will answer critics’ concerns.

Rep. Dave Cheatham, D-Mount Vernon, and Rep. Eric Turner, R-Marion, said they each will sponsor proposed amendments with identical language, while Sen. Marlin Stutzman, R-Howe, said he would file the amendment in the Senate.

Hate Crimes to Get More Attention

Indianapolis police officials have vowed to step up efforts to identify and report hate crimes in response to concerns by local human rights groups.

The groups, part of a coalition organized by Indiana Equality, had questioned officers' awareness of hate crimes and the department's thoroughness in reporting them.
